David Hockney was born on July 9, 1937 in Bradford, England. He went to the Bradford College of Art from 1953-1957, then spent 2 years working in hospitals to fulfill his national service requirement. After that, he went to the Royal College of Art in London. He started out having an expressionistic style, but the evolved into more of a realist. In 2011, Hockney was voted the most influential British artist of all time. My artwork emulates his style, because I used many photographs to produce one photo overall, which is what he does.
I took these photographs at the duck pond using a DSLR camera. The first one was taken of some trails and then second one was taken of some trees I saw as I was walking by. To create these photographs I took 3x3 pictures of each subject. I then op;need up photoshop and made a new file 11''x14''. I then placed the 9 different images onto that file and arranged them in a way where you can see what the overall photo is supposed to look like. I like how this style looks, because it doesn't have to be perfect at all.

I chose this magazine, because it went best with what I was wearing. I like this magazine, because I'm super into music. I emulated my magazines style by doing a straight face and wearing my Led Zepplin shirt. I used different fonts and colors, because the magazine usually goes for different fonts and these colors went best to keep it looking simple. We created the photograph by taking the photo using many different studio lights, a backdrop, and a reflector. A strobe light is a light you hook up to your camera and every time it takes a photograph it flashes. You would use a strobe light to brighten the subject of the photo and you would use it by hooking up your camera with a cord to the strobe light. A modeling light is a continuous light source while taking a photo. The purpose of this is to show the photographer how the lights are going to play against the other lights and where the shadows will fall. A soft light diffuses light into soft, even light. It is used as a light modifier. A reflector is a circular object that has reflecting surface. You use a reflector to direct light onto the subject. A grey card is a card with 3 different trips of grey. Its purpose is to help produce consistent image exposure. A radio trigger system is attached to the strobe light. It helps you bluetooth and hook up your camera to it.
Through the Rear Window
I have named my photograph “Through the Rear Window,” because the focus of the photo is directed towards window looking beyond the blue frame. This photo was taken at Leo Carrillo Ranch near the pool of one of the walls from inside a small 3-sided building. I took this photograph using an IPhone 7 and this is the original photo with no editing. I decided to leave it in its original form, because of how simple it is, yet appealing to the eye; the blue in the window frame draws your eye right to the window and I found this photo doesn’t need any editing to look beautiful. I entered this photo in the color photography division, because it is simple but has a nice blue pop of color. This photograph was printed on Epson Glossy Photo Paper on the Epson P800 digital printer. |
